Himalayan Mountain goat, Carpa Hircus, sheds its winter coat every spring. One goat sheds approximately 3-8 ounces of the fiber. As it can be collected only once a year and that too in a very small amounts, Cashmere/Pashmina is uxury as well as rare. The fibre collected in this way, is spun either manually or by mechanically. The weaving is entirely done by hands on hand-looms. We have our weaving masters who are descendents of ancient Mughal crafts people. The other weavers are Nepali – Tibetan people who also have traditional experience and link with weaving craftsmanship.
At our industry dyeing is also completed by hand, 3-4 pieces individually. We have been in dyeing field for more than 27 years and it’s exciting that we were the first to introduce Cashmere/Pashmina dyeing in the Kathmandu valley, and in Nepal as a whole. We use Sandoz metal-free and azo-free dyes which are the Swiss company’s new generation of eco-friendly dyes. We dye at a temperature just below boiling point for about 45 minutes. The products are first rinsed in hot water, then in cool water, and finally washed and cleansed with shampoo prescribed by experts and experienced technician of the factory.
